Victor L. Perez, M.D.

Director of the Ocular Surface Center

Victor L. Perez, M.D., Professor of Ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at UHealth, part of the University of Miami, and Director of the Ocular Surface Center, specializes in ocular surface diseases, keratoprostheses, corneal transplant surgery, ocular immunology, uveitis and corneal and external diseases.  His research interests are in the areas of ocular surface disease, dry eye syndrome and keratoprostheses. 

Dr. Perez received an undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis and a medical degree from University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. He completed an ophthalmology residency at Massachusetts Eye and Ear at Harvard Medical School and went on to complete four fellowships in cornea and external diseases and in uveitis at Massachusetts Eye and Ear at Harvard Medical School; a ocular immunology research fellowship at Schepens Eye Research Institute at Harvard Medical School: and an immunology research fellowship in the Department of Pathology of Brigham and Women’s Hospital at Harvard Medical School.

Priscilla Sotomayor, OD

Dr. Sotomayor is a graduate of the University of Miami and received her Doctor of Optometry from Nova Southeastern University. She completed her residency at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and in 2012 completed the BostonSight® PROSE Clinical Fellowship.

Dr. Sotomayor is fluent in Spanish

Guillermo Amescua, M.D., Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at UHealth, part of the University of Miami, specializes in ocular surface diseases, keratoprostheses, corneal transplant surgery, uveitis and corneal and external diseases.  His research interests are in the areas of ocular chemical and thermal burns, high risk corneal transplantation and ocular microbiology. 

Doctor Amescua received a combined medical and undergraduate degree from Ignacio A. Santos School of Medicine in Monterrey, Mexico.  He completed a pre-graduate ocular immunology research fellowship at Cole Eye Institute at Cleveland Clinic.  He then completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident; as well as two fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery and in cornea, ocular surface and uveitis, both at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.
