A View from the "Other Side"
I am writing to express my gratitude for everything that BFS did for my daughter, Alexis, during her visit to BFS; the impact on her life has been nothing short of “transformative”.
Alexis has suffered with keratoconus since she was a teenager. In recent years, she has had progressive problems with dry eye, pain and general misery that plagued her daily. I don’t need to recount the problems related to bright lights and poor night vision which tormented her, and I’m certain you can imagine the anxiety that we experienced, as parents, wondering if there was any hope for a solution for her.
I don’t think that Alexis realized just how much her eye condition and its associated discomfort and aggravation colored her life. She returned from BFS with a new, positive attitude toward her vision and her life. She brags to us how she can put her devices in within a few minutes (and that putting them in makes her eyes MORE comfortable!) and spent the first few weeks after her return regaling us with all the details of life that she could now see, as if for the first time.
I trust that you can imagine the depth of our gratitude for the treatment you have developed which has had such a remarkable impact on Alexis and many other patients. I can express this gratitude with some sense of having seen it from the “other side”. As a pediatric oncologist, I have had the experience of intervening in the lives of families and the pleasure of watching as children are restored to good health.
I would also like to compliment you on the atmosphere that has been created in your Needham clinic. We were amazed at the caring, nurturing environment and of the entire experience at BFS. Dr. Ryan Ridges and Heidi Scott-Wolfe were especially patient and reassuring throughout the process. We were astonished also to see that virtually the entire town of Needham (including taxi drivers, hotel staff and waiters at local restaurants) appear to be part of your therapeutic community and supporters of your clinic and of your mission. This is a reflection of the good work and remarkable successes of your foundation.
My donation to BFS does not begin to express the gratitude of my family.
