Christopher Alferez, OD, FAAO

Christopher Alferez, OD, FAAO is the Optometry Residency and Externship Program Director at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), Fort Sam Houston, TX. He is currently a Major in the United States Army. 

Dr. Alferez received his Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology from the University of California, Davis. He received his Doctorate of Optometry degree (Cum Laude) from Southern California College of Optometry. He completed his residency in Primary Care Optometry at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, TX, which included extensive training on Ocular Disease and Cornea/Contact Lenses. 

Following residency, Dr. Alferez became the Optometry Officer in Charge in the Ft. Sam Houston Outpatient Clinic. He then was assigned in Ft. Hood, TX as the commander of the 554th Medical Detachment (Optometry), where he led his team in support of Operation Southern Accord in South Africa. He continued in Ft. Hood as the Assistant Chief of Optometry at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center. Prior to his current assignment, he was Chief of Optometry at BG Crawford F. Sams Health Clinic in Camp Zama, Japan. He holds several military honors and distinctions, including the Meritorious Service Medal, the Expert Field Medical Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.
