FOR PATIENTS | Patients We've Helped A victim of Stevens-Johnson syndrome, nine-year-old Samantha Curtis lived behind dark sunglasses, unable to play outside because of her sensitivity to light. She only knew people by their voice because she could not see them. Even watching TV was painful. Samantha spent six months in the house with the shades drawn until her doctor at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, knowing it was her only hope, referred her to the Boston Foundation for Sight to try the Boston Scleral Lens. Samantha can now do what she lovesgo to school, play outside and
watch TV. "Now, I have two friends," she says. She loves to
readabout pandas and zebras, Abraham Lincoln, whatever she can findand
write poems. "I love school," she reports, "and I love
Dr. Cotter. Shes my favorite doctor." |

"Samantha hated to go out and play because the glare of sunlight was so unbearable, even with the darkest sunglasses. What child doesnt like to go outside and play? The Boston Foundation for Sight has truly given Samantha a gifther childhood." Mother of Samantha |
