Lens manufacturing and supply

The cornerstone of the Foundation’s lenses is a patented computer-aided design/manufacturing technology based on a relatively new field of mathematics known as spline function (U.S. patent #5,452,031). Developed over a nine-year period and integrated with the control system of the state-of-the-art Precitech Optoform 80 contact lens lathe, this on-site technology has been an essential resource for advancing the development of the Foundation’s lenses.

Research and Development

The primary objectives of our research program include:.

  • expanding the scope of the therapeutic applications.
  • reducing the need for customized fitting thereby simplifying the process and reducing its costs.
  • collaborating with colleagues in other research centers to exploit the unique capabilities of the Boston Scleral lens for delivering therapeutic drugs and newly discovered biological factors in order to advance the therapeutic strategies in severe ocular surface disease for which there is no currently curative treatment.
