Gloria Chiu, OD, FAAO, FSLS BostonSight PROSE Clinical Fellow

Dr. Gloria B Chiu, OD, FAAO, FSLS is an Associate Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at the USC Roski Eye Institute, Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Molecular and Cell Biology and a minor in Music at the University of California, Berkeley and her Doctor of Optometry at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry. She completed a residency in Cornea and Contact Lenses at the Southern California College of Optometry, where she still serves as an adjunct faculty member, and an additional fellowship at BostonSight to specialize in PROSE treatment. Her clinical interests include contact lens fittings and treatment for patients with ocular surface disease and irregular corneas. Her research interests include microbiology studies to evaluate saline solutions commonly used with scleral lens wear and potential risks for microbial infections. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and the Scleral Lens Education Society.

Charles W. Flowers, Jr., MD

Dr. Charles Flowers is Associate Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology and the Ophthalmology Residency Program Director at USC Roski Eye Institute & LAC+USC Medical Center at the Keck School of Medicine. His specialties include cornea / external disease and laser vision correction. Dr. Flowers received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Stanford University in 1985 and his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College in 1989. During his time as a medical student he was honored as a national medical fellowship scholar. Following his ophthalmology residency training at the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine in Los Angeles, California, he completed a cornea and refractive surgery fellowship in the USC Department of Ophthalmology where he was the recipient of the Award of Excellence in Resident Training. Dr. Flowers has been repeatedly recognized as one of the nation’s top eye surgeons by the Consumer’s Research Council for his expertise in cornea and refractive surgery.

J. Martin Heur, MD, PhD

Dr. Martin Heur is Vice Chair and Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology and Medical Director, USC Roski Eye Institute- Los Angeles and Director, Cornea & Refractive Surgery. His specialties include refractive surgery, cornea and external disease, penetrating and lamellar keratoplasty, and cataract surgery. He received MD and PhD degrees from the Physician Scientist Training Program at University of Cincinnati College of Medicine where he was awarded an NIH Medical Scientist Training Program fellowship. He completed residency training at Cole Eye Institute, Cleveland Clinic, followed by a fellowship in Cornea and External Disease and Refractive Surgery at The USC Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Heur’s research is supported by grants from the National Eye Institute and Research to Prevent Blindness, and was previously supported by Baxter Foundation, Fight for Sight, and Knight Templar Eye Foundation.

Annie Nguyen, MD

Dr. Nguyen is Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology, Assistant Director of Cornea & Refractive Surgery Fellowship. Her specialties include cornea / external disease, refractive surgery and anterior uveitis. She is a native Southern Californian, graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University Honors Program at California State University Fullerton. Opportunities presented themselves on the East Coast where she broadened her horizons as she seized opportunities to obtain her medical degree from Harvard University and ophthalmology residency training at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. She returned home to California to complete fellowship training in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery at USC Roski Eye Institute. The foundation for her approach to health care has been firmly laid to rely upon effective communication, endless quest for knowledge, constant skill refinement, and unwavering patient advocacy as she strives to provide exceptional patient care, contribute to the education of medical students, residents, and fellows, and further knowledge through clinical research.

Kristina Voss, MD

Kristina Voss, MD, is an assistant professor of clinical ophthalmology at USC Department of Ophthalmology. She specializes in the medical and surgical management of diseases of the anterior segment, particularly cornea and cataract. She performs cataract surgery with advanced technology, including astigmatism-correcting, and multifocal intraocular lenses. She performs full-thickness and lamellar corneal transplantation. She cares for patients with keratoconus and performs corneal collagen crosslinking. Her practice also includes refractive surgery as she offers LASIK and PRK.
