David L. Rosenbloom is the Chair of BostonSight’s Board of Directors. His career spans the public, private, not-for-profit, and academic health sectors.

David is currently Professor of Public Health at the Boston University School of Public Health where he focuses on U.S. and international health policy and issues relating to substance use disorders.

He served as Commissioner of Health and Hospitals for the City of Boston and CEO of the city’s public delivery system, including Boston City Hospital, 22 neighborhood health centers, and the emergency medical system.

Prior to that, David was Vice President and then President of Health Data Institute, Inc., a company that pioneered the clinical analysis of medical claims data and developed managed care tools and techniques used throughout the country today. He has conducted, published research, and led national community-based demonstration projects in addiction prevention, treatment, and policy. He has also led the development of web/mobile-based interventions to help individuals quit smoking, assess their risk for alcohol and drug-related health problems, and reduce unhealthy drinking among veterans returning from combat.

He conducted some of the first research on the development of the professional campaign management industry in the U.S., The Election Men (Quadrangle Press, NY, 1973).

David has served as a founder, member, director, or chair of many high-impact organizations that address addiction, disability, and gun violence problems, including Join Together, the National Advisory Council for NIDA, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, the Community Medical Alliance, Inc., Quitnet.com, Stop Handgun Violence, and Police Assisted Addiction Recovery Initiative.

He earned his BA in political science from Colgate University and his PhD in Political Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
