Angel Flights is a non-profit organization of pilots, volunteers, and friends; they arrange free air transportation for any legitimate, charitable, medically related need. Angel Flight primarily serves patients needing transportation to or from the heartland region.

Angel Flight East (AFE) is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the community by facilitating free air transportation for children and adults with medical conditions who need to get to treatment far from home. AFE serves the Northeastern region of the United States, and for destinations beyond our reach, we link with other volunteer pilot organizations. Anyone who requests a flight must be medically stable, able to board an aircraft, and fly in a small non-pressurized aircraft. Volunteer pilots use their own aircraft to fly patients to their destinations. These men and women pay for all expenses for each mission they fly. Most AFE patients require air transportation numerous times over several years for the treatment of and follow-up for their conditions.

Common questions

Generally, we book Consultation appointments six weeks out. Prior to your initial consultation, you must complete our Intake process.

The intake process takes approximately one month. Once the required information is provided to BostonSight, your chart will go through a comprehensive medical review to determine if you are a candidate for PROSE treatment. If you are a candidate, we will contact your insurance carrier to inquire about coverage and prior authorization requirements, which can take several weeks.

We will send you forms to complete and return. We also need a copy of recent comprehensive exam notes from your Primary Eye Care provider (from an appointment within the last six months) and a copy of the front and back of your insurance card(s).

The Consultation is a one-to-two-hour appointment. The fitting process takes 5-8 days to complete. The first several days are full days in the office with multiple appointments with the doctor to work on the fit of the device and with the technicians to learn to apply, remove, and care for the devices.

The Consultation will still be one to two hours long, but the number of appointments for the fitting may be reduced, as you will not require as many training sessions with the technicians.

We do not work with vision Insurance; PROSE is a medical treatment, so we bill through medical insurance.

Unfortunately, no. We are open Monday-Friday 7:30 am-5:00 pm.

As part of the intake process, we ask for a copy of your medical insurance card. We will contact your insurance provider, inquire about coverage, and let you know before scheduling your first appointment.

You do not have to have a companion with you, but if you are more comfortable having support at your visit, we encourage you to bring someone along.

You do not need a doctor to refer you for PROSE treatment, but we will need current eye exam notes for our doctors to review (they must be from an appointment within the last six months).
