The PROSE Network Clinic at the Kellogg Eye Center is located at the University of Michigan Medical Center, one of the largest medical centers in the world. They offer a comprehensive approach to the management of ocular surface disease, including dry eye syndrome, with 64 doctors with various specialties and sub-specialties available to their patients. The University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center is a nationally recognized center for vision care and research. Kellogg ophthalmologists conduct 140,000 patient visits each year, offering an exceptional range of services. At the University medical campus in Ann Arbor, they have a comprehensive ophthalmology clinic as well as seven subspecialty clinics. They serve the region through eight community offices in Ann Arbor, Brighton, Canton, Chelsea, Livonia, Milford, West Bloomfield, and Ypsilanti. Dr. DeLoss and her staff would be happy to assist you with any questions you may have regarding candidacy, billing, insurance, or scheduling. BostonSight PROSE Clinical Fellow
Dr. Karen DeLoss graduated from Illinois College of Optometry and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in cornea and contact lenses at the University of Houston College of Optometry in Houston, TX, where she received the George W. Mertz Contact Lens Residency award. During her fellowship, Dr. DeLoss worked with referral patients, specializing in complex contact lens design and fit for individuals with a wide variety of corneal conditions. Dr. DeLoss is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan, Department of Ophthalmology, Kellogg Eye Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She primarily treats patients using PROSE treatment but also specializes in specialty fit contact lenses. Dr. DeLoss completed the BostonSight PROSE Clinical Fellowship in 2010.
Dr. H. Kaz Soong is Professor of Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Surgery in Ophthalmology and Visual Science. His interests include corneal and conjunctival diseases including corneal dystrophies, degenerative conditions, infections, ulcers, tumors, corneal involvement in systemic diseases, and dry eyes; high-risk corneal transplants with previous graft rejections and concomitant anterior segment problems; posterior (deep) lamellar keratoplasty; ocular surface problems related to corneal epithelial wound healing; LASIK, PRK and refractive surgery; and femtosecond laser corneal surgery. He received his MD from Columbia University, completed his residency at Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute at Johns Hopkins University, and completed a fellowship in cornea and external diseases from Massachusetts Eye and Ear.
Dr. Christopher Hood is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. His interests include comprehensive eye care; evaluation and treatment of cataracts (including astigmatism-correcting lenses); corneal surgery (including lamellar and full-thickness transplantation); refractive surgery (including IntraLase, custom cornea LASIK, LASEK, PRK); dry eye disease; corneal infections, dystrophies, and tumors. Dr. Hood’s research focuses on clinical studies related to refractive surgery, the cornea, and cataracts. He received his MD from the University of Michigan, completed his residency at Cole Eye Institute Cleveland Clinic, and completed a fellowship in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery at the Kellogg Eye Center, University of Michigan.
Dr. Shazhad Mian is an Associate Professor of Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and Associate Chair, Education Terry J. Bergstrom Collegiate Professor for Resident Education in Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. His interests include corneal transplantation; cataract and refractive surgery (IntraLase, custom cornea LASIK, LASEK, PRK, corneal rings, CK); medical and surgical management of ocular surface diseases including amniotic membrane grafts, limbal stem cell transplantation and permanent keratoprostheses; corneal infections, dystrophies, and tumors; and dry eye disease. Dr. Mian earned his MD from Emory University, completed his residency at Wills Eye Hospital Thomas Jefferson University, and completed a fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear.
Dr. Roni Shtein is Associate Professor of Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Ophthalmology and Visual Science. Her interests include cornea transplantation (full thickness and lamellar transplants); cataract and refractive surgery (IntraLase, custom cornea LASIK, LASEK, PRK); clinical confocal microscopy; dry eye and ocular surface disease; medical and surgical management of corneal and conjunctival disorders including dystrophies and degenerations, infections, ulcers, and tumors; and corneal involvement in systemic diseases. Her research focuses on high risk cornea transplantation; clinical confocal microscopy; dry eye and ocular surface disease; corneal immunology; and refractive surgery techniques and outcomes.
Dr. Shtein earned her MD from Brown University, and completed her residency and fellowship at Kellogg Eye Center.
Dr. Alan Sugar is Professor of Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Surgery in Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and Vice Chair, Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. His interests include corneal transplantation; cataract and refractive surgery (LASIK, PRK, Intacs, conductive keratoplasty); herpes simplex keratitis; management of diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva such as corneal dystrophies; degenerative conditions; infections; ulcers; corneal and conjunctival tumors; corneal involvement in systemic diseases; and dry eyes.
Dr. Sugar earned his MD from the University of Michigan. He completed his residency at Washington University in St. Louis and a fellowship in cornea and external diseases from University of Florida.
