Dr. Dan Brocks featured in Ophthalmology Management

January 13, 2026/0 Comments/in In the Media/by michele

Dr. Dan Brocks, BostonSight Chief Medical Officer, was featured in Ophthalmology Management on January 12, 2026. In this interview, he discusses his role as CMO and the expaning reserach capabilities of BostonSight.

Daniel Brocks, MD: As the CMO, I am fortunate to help in many aspects of patient care, education, and research at BostonSight. My main role is to support patient care in our Needham office, to assist in patient and medical professional education, and to support the clinical research program and our efforts to continue to investigate innovative and novel approaches to treat cornea and ocular surface disease.

We are fortunate to be able to provide each patient with a comprehensive evaluation of their disease state, to create a focused treatment plan, and to afford them the opportunity to participate in breakthrough investigations through our clinical trials program. Patient records are thoroughly evaluated prior to coming to our office, to determine the best approach to their care. While here, each patient has each and every prosthetic replacement of the ocular surface ecosystem (PROSE) device customized for their eye in our on-site ISO certified, FDA registered manufacturing lab. PROSE devices are removable, nickel-sized transparent domes made of gas-permeable plastic that allow oxygen to reach the surface of the eye. They rest on the sclera and vault over the cornea to create a smooth surface over the damaged or diseased cornea. PROSE treatment uses prosthetic devices cleared by the FDA for therapeutic indications.

OM: What do you find the most rewarding about your role as CMO?

BostonSight Announces New Features for BostonSight SCLERAL

January 6, 2026/0 Comments/in Blog Posts, Press Release/by michele

Needham, Mass. –January 6, 2026 – BostonSight® today announced two new features to its BostonSight SCLERAL® lens: SmartFocus™ multifocal and Quad-Elevation™.

Lenses with multifocal optics allow patients to see near, intermediate, and far with one lens. SmartFocus uses a proprietary design to provide multifocal optics in a scleral lens.

“SmartFocus delivers vision at all distances — designed for the presbyope and the complex cornea alike,” said Dr. Rob Davis of Davis EyeCare. “The design leverages retinal sampling matched to pupil behavior, optimizing performance in every lighting condition. Each lens is custom-crafted to work with the natural pupil behavior, adapting automatically to changes in light and working distance. The result is a natural, balanced visual experience that feels like your eyes are doing the work independent from spectacles.”

Quad-Elevation allows practitioners to modify the mid-peripheral corneal zone in addition to the haptic and limbal zones, in a quadrant-specific manner. This level of customization means practitioners can modify the scleral lens across 12 independent zones, if desired, to fit patients with irregular corneas and scleral shapes.

“By integrating concentric multizone optics and Quad-Elevation into a stable scleral platform, patients experience natural, simultaneous focus without sacrificing comfort or clarity,” said Dr. Davis.

“Our goal at BostonSight is always focused on exceptional patient care,” said Karen G. Carrasquillo, OD, PhD, FAAO, FSLS, FBCLA and Chief Innovation and Education Officer at BostonSight. “These features give clinicians expanded tools to improve visual acuity and to design patient-specific lenses that support long-term ocular health.”
